Therapy That Helps the Whole Family Feel Understood

Family conflict usually involves people who love each other and a whole lot of unspoken pain, unmet needs, and ways of communicating that nobody ever had a chance to learn differently. Family therapy gives everyone in the room a real space to be heard and helps your family start building something that actually works.

You Stop the Pattern Before It Passes Down

The cycles that shaped you don’t have to shape your kids. Family therapy helps you see the pattern clearly enough to put it down.

Your Family Finds a Way to Talk Again

When communication has broken down, therapy gives every person in the room a voice and a way to use it.

Everyone Leaves With Tools, Not Just Insight

Understanding what’s broken is a start. Leaving with real skills to handle conflict, set limits, and reconnect is the goal.

You love each other. You just can't seem to understand each other anymore.

Every family has a system. There is the one who keeps the peace, the one who holds everything together, the one who acts out, the one who goes quiet. These roles develop over time and they make sense in the moment. But they also become invisible walls that keep family members from actually connecting, even when they are sitting in the same room.

The painful part is that most family conflict does not come from anyone trying to cause harm. It comes from unmet needs and old patterns and ways of communicating that nobody ever got to learn differently. Family therapy gives everyone a space to slow down, see the system they are in, and start learning how to relate to each other in ways that actually work.

Sounds familiar? If so, you're in the right place

Your teenager will not talk to you and you do not know how to reach them.

You and your partner are on completely different pages about parenting.

There is old hurt between family members that nobody has been willing to address.

The same arguments happen over and over with the same result every time.

You can see a painful pattern in your family and you are afraid it is going to keep passing down.

Someone in the family is struggling and it is affecting everyone else.

Family members feel like they are playing roles they did not choose and cannot get out of.

You love each other but you do not know how to be in the same room without it turning into a fight.

You do not have to have it all figured out before you come in. That is what we are here to help with.

Family Therapy in Elizabethtown, Kentucky

What is Family Therapy?

Family therapy is work with two or more family members together, focused on improving communication, interrupting conflict patterns, understanding family dynamics, and helping the whole system function better. At Tabb Therapy, we believe families do not end up in therapy because they are broken. They end up here because they care about each other and something needs to change.

Our approach is systemic, which means we do not point to one person as the source of the problem. We look at the whole family, the patterns, the roles, the unspoken rules, and the ways everyone communicates or does not. We help family members see how they are all connected and contributing to what is happening, not because anyone is bad or wrong, but because the system they are in was built a certain way and it can be built differently.

A typical family therapy session is 50 minutes with whatever combination of family members is most relevant to the work. That might be both parents and one teenager, or the whole family, or sometimes different groupings depending on what needs to happen that week. We also sometimes see family members individually as part of the broader work. The focus is always on how the system functions and how to help it work better for everyone in it. Family therapy is offered as private pay with a flat rate. We also accept superbills if you would like to submit to your insurance yourself.

About Tabb Therapy

Why work with Tabb Therapy?

They have it in them. They just don't know how to arrange it yet.

Wynna Tabb, LMFT, Practice Owner

We are a group practice, which means when you come to Tabb Therapy, you’re not just getting one person you’re getting a team of clinicians who specialize in trauma, abuse recovery, and the kind of emotional work that most people avoid talking about. We are trauma-focused at our core, EMDR-trained, and deeply committed to making therapy feel human not clinical, not stiff, and definitely not a lecture.

What makes us different is how seriously we take giving the healing back to you. We don’t want you to need us forever. We want you to leave with confidence, language, and skills and then go live your life. Every clinician on our team leads with warmth, holds a whole lot of your story in their hands, and will call you back to your own strength again and again until you can do it yourself.

What our practice stands for:

The win belongs to you.

We don’t take credit for your healing. When you do something hard, grow through something painful, or finally feel lighter that was you. We’re just here to help you find your way there

Honesty, always.

We’re warm, but we’re not going to tell you what you want to hear just to make the session easier. Real healing takes real conversations. We will be blunt with kindness, every time.

No judgment. Ever.

We have heard a lot. Whatever you bring in with you your story, your past, the parts you haven’t said out loud you will not be judged, shamed, or made to feel like too much in this space.

Meet Gus!

He doesn’t have a degree or a single professional credential to his name. What he does have is an uncanny ability to walk into a room and make it feel like everything is going to be okay.

Gus has been part of the Tabb Therapy family since the beginning. He shows up every day, greets every person who walks through the door, and has yet to meet a single soul he didn’t immediately decide to love. He’s been called “the best part of this place.” Honestly, we don’t argue with that.

When you come in, you might find him in the lobby, the hallway, or somewhere he probably shouldn’t be. Wherever he is, consider it an open invitation to stop for a second, pet him, and remember that you belong here.

What Working Together Looks Like

Come As You Are

You reach out, we match you with the right clinician for what you're carrying. You fill out a little paperwork, and then you walk in. You don't have to have anything figured out. You just have to show up.

Untangle It Together

This is the messy middle, and it's where the real work happens. Think of it like several balls of yarn we sit together and figure out what connects to what. Slowly, things start to make sense. The weight starts to lift.

Leave Lighter

When you're done, you're different not because we changed you, but because you finally got to use what was already inside you. You'll have the language, the tools, and the confidence to keep going on your own.

Frequently Asked Questions

We bring whoever needs to be in the room together and create a space where everyone can actually be heard. We help you see the patterns you are stuck in, teach communication tools, and work toward a sense of family that functions more like a team. Sessions are structured so quieter voices get space and louder ones learn to listen.

The more people involved, the more of the system we can address. That said, we work with who is willing. Sometimes it starts with two people and expands from there. We figure out who needs to be in the room based on what you are trying to change.

That is actually information about the system too. We can still work with the members who are willing, and often when one or two people shift, the whole system starts to respond. Reach out and we can talk about how to approach someone who is not ready yet.

Yes. Family therapy at Tabb Therapy is offered as private pay with a flat rate. We can provide a superbill if you would like to submit to your insurance yourself. This structure gives us the flexibility to focus on your family without insurance limitations shaping the work.

  •

That depends on what you are working through and how deeply the patterns are rooted. Some families do focused shorter term work over 8 to 12 sessions. Others stay longer for deeper systemic change. We check in regularly and adjust as the work moves forward.

Reach out and we can talk through what you are dealing with and whether family therapy makes sense as a next step. There is no pressure. Just an honest conversation about what might help.
