Sean O’Neill

Certified Social Worker

In-person & Virtual

Individuals Only

Sean works with children, teens, and adults of all ages who are navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, or experiences that have made life feel difficult to manage. He has extensive areas of experience supporting veterans and military members, individuals working through substance use concerns, and people navigating the challenges of incarceration or returning to their communities.

Sean understands that what someone has been through can continue affecting how they feel, respond, and move through everyday life. His approach draws from several therapeutic methods, allowing him to address both the experiences behind someone’s struggles and the challenges they are facing today.

Whether you’re working through something from your past or trying to find a healthier way forward, Sean helps you better understand what you’re experiencing, develop practical coping skills, and work toward meaningful changes in your life.

Sean specializes in supporting clients with:

Processing childhood trauma and experiences that continue affecting daily life

Managing anxiety, depression, and difficult changes in mood

Building self-esteem and developing a healthier understanding of yourself

Working through PTSD, traumatic experiences, and the effects of abuse

Developing healthier coping skills and managing impulsive behaviors

Navigating grief, chronic illness, and emotionally difficult life changes

Supporting veterans and military members facing mental health challenges

Addressing substance use concerns and working toward recovery

Adjusting to life during or after involvement with the legal system

What it’s like to work with Sean

Sean brings experience working with people whose circumstances and life experiences are often more complicated than others may realize. From military service and childhood trauma to substance use and involvement with the legal system, he recognizes that understanding what someone has lived through is an important part of helping them move forward.

His approach draws from trauma-focused therapy, cognitive and behavioral methods, and person-centered counseling. Rather than assuming every person needs the same type of support, Sean can draw from different approaches based on the concerns being addressed.

In therapy, the focus is on understanding how your experiences may be affecting you today while developing ways to manage difficult emotions and respond to challenges more effectively. You can work toward change without having to ignore or minimize what you’ve been through.

Sean's Experience

Sean is a Certified Social Worker practicing under licensed supervision in Kentucky. His professional experience includes providing therapeutic care to veterans and military members, individuals experiencing substance use disorders, and people working through trauma, PTSD, depression, and anxiety.

He has also worked with incarcerated individuals and people transitioning back into their communities following incarceration. His background includes serving rural communities where access to mental health services may be limited, helping individuals receive support that might otherwise be difficult to find.

Sean draws on this range of clinical experience to support people facing difficult circumstances, with an understanding that effective care needs to account for each person’s experiences and individual needs.

Absolutely. Trauma and PTSD are two of my primary areas of focus. I use trauma-focused approaches, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), to help you understand how past experiences may still be affecting your thoughts, emotions, and everyday life. We'll work together to process those experiences and develop healthier ways to move forward.
Yes. I have experience providing therapy for individuals with substance use disorders. Together, we can explore the patterns and experiences contributing to substance use, work on healthier coping strategies, and focus on changes that support your recovery.
That's something we can absolutely work on together. I use approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help you better understand your emotional responses and develop practical tools for handling difficult situations. The goal is to help you feel more in control of how you respond, even when life feels overwhelming.

Yes! I work with individuals across the LGBTQ+ community, including people who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer, and nonbinary. I want therapy to be a place where you feel comfortable discussing your experiences and working through whatever brings you into my office.
